The change of name process can be relatively straight forward for an adult. A little more work is required to change the name of a person under 18 where the parents (or those with parental responsibility) give their permission. Where a parent with parental responsibility refuses to give consent then an application to the Court may be required and that falls outside the scope of this note (please refer to the family law section).

You can have an unenrolled change of name which is simpler to produce but some institutions may only accept an enrolled change of name. For the enrolled change of name, a little more work is required and the deed is enrolled with the Courts. A notice is put into The Gazette to officially record your change of name.

Adult:

Our fees for an unenrolled change of name deed for an adult is £200 +VAT. 

For an  enrolled change of name our fee is £450 +VAT and the Court fee which is currently £36 but may be subject to change (we will let you know how much the Court fee will be in advance). 

Under 18:

For an unenrolled change of name deed (where parents with parental responsibility give consent) our fee is £200 +VAT

Our fee for and enrolled change of name for a child (where both parents consent) is £600 +VAT and court fee (£36).
